    Dear Colleagues,

    This is a reminder that the deadline for submission of papers to this
    conference will close in four weeks.

    We are also pleased to announce our first confirmed keynote speaker, Dr
    Inna Pomorina from the Economics Network (formerly LTSN Economics) at
    the University of Bristol. Additional keynote speakers will be confirmed
    in the weeks ahead.

    This conference is for all who teach, and those with responsibility for
    insuring the quality of teaching in economics, econometrics, political
    economy, economic history, and applied economics in finance, accounting,
    marketing and other fields. It offers a forum for the presentation of
    research in the pedagogy of economics in its many forms as well as the
    opportunity for scholarly engagement with the practice of teaching and
    learning in higher education with like-minded colleagues from Australia,
    New Zealand, and beyond.

    11th Australasian Teaching Economics Conference:
    'Innovation for Student Engagement in Economics'

    11-12 July 2005, Sydney, Australia.

    Submission deadline: 15 April 2005.

    Conference information: Hosted by the Discipline of Economics at The
    University of Sydney, Australia, this conference will bring together
    researchers and practitioners with a shared interest in innovative
    teaching strategies to promote engaged student learning in economics.
    The conference theme encompasses, but is not limited to, the following
    areas as they pertain to teaching and learning in economics and related
    disciplines at the tertiary level:

    Innovation in:

    Pedagogy
    Curriculum and program design
    Information and communications technology
    Scholarship of teaching and research-led teaching
    Assessment and evaluation
    International education
    Staff development

    Student engagement through:

    Critical thinking
    Case-based learning
    Experiments and simulations
    Active and experiential learning
    Flexible, online, distance and blended learning
    Collaborative and peer-supported learning

    The conference will also incorporate a special session to propose the
    formation of an Australasian Society for Economic Education.

    Submission guidelines: Detailed guidelines for authors, along with a
    document template for the conference proceedings, are available from the
    conference website.

    Prospective presenters should submit full papers, which will be subject
    to a process of peer review by independent qualified experts to fulfil
    DEST criteria for a conference publication. Papers will be selected
    according to the following criteria:

    * Relevance to the conference theme, importance and interest to
    conference participants, potential to stimulate discussion.
    * Academic merit:
      - Clear statement of goals; appropriate selection and documentation of
    methods; logical presentation and analysis of results, inferences and
    conclusions; significance for practice, policy or future research.
      - Meets DEST definition of research in relation to creativity,
    originality, and increasing humanity's stock of knowledge.
    * Clear and logical presentation, appropriate style, freedom from
    errors, ease of reading, correct grammar and spelling, appropriate
    abstract, conformance with specifications for formatting and referencing
    as set out on the conference website.

    Key dates: Full papers are to be submitted by 15 April 2005. Authors
    will be notified of conditional acceptance decisions by 30 May 2005, and
    will have until 17 June 2005 to submit a final file incorporating
    required revisions for inclusion in the conference proceedings. The
    deadline for 'early-bird' registrations will be 10 June 2005.
