I recently had the pleasure (?) of being on a committee
to discuss what went into the new classrooms in a new
building. Blackboards vs. whiteboards came up. For the
security reason listed below (although I thought of it
as damage control, not security), we decided on
blackboards. We noted that almost all existing
whiteboards on campus were actually grey for this
reason, and were virtually useless. It was noted by
experienced users that whiteboard markers were stolen
frequently and chalk wasn't. Therefore, people
substituted what they thought were the correct markers,
but often were not, so the boards were damaged.
