Is anone familiar with the science fiction novel Down and Out in the Magic
Kingdom, by Cory Doctorow (Tor Books, 2003)? In an interview on NPR's "Weekend
Sunday" program on June 8, Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon.com, called
this one of his favorite books. According to Bezos, the book describes an
economy based on reputation: people accumulate reputation, which is tracked in
a central database, and people "spend" their reputation to purchase goods and
services. Goods and services are allocated by reputation.
Just wondering if anyone could advise whether it is worth reading, with an eye
toward incorporating the ideas in a Principles class. Thanks.
