Muskingum College has a prison program at an institution about an hour
away; instructors get a standard mileage reimbursement. They are typically
hired specifically for that program, so the issue of overloads doesn't come
up.

At Ohio University, adjuncts who had to travel more than 15 miles to the
campus were paid mileage until two years ago when that was phased out.

The situation you describe is a real distance-learning problem. Is there
any way you can deliver instruction electronically, at least part of the time?
