Sorry to respond so late to your request for information. I have been
actively using instructional technology as a teaching device for about
two years. I do not mean statistical software, wordprocessors or
multimedia per se. Rather I have been investigating the use of
networking tools to change the teaching/learning environment.
Originally I used email and list-servs, but more recently I have used
groupware. Groupware is a generic term for software which creates open
documents for groups to work with. The market leader for this is Lotus
Notes. The groupware product which I am using creates a hypermedia
environment local to your campus network, but which allows users to link
to the World Wide Web, and is fully integrated with email. I have used
it to teach seminars where the software allows us to have very
sophisticated electronic discussions which capture the best of both
in-class discussion and written assignments. I would be happy to
participate in a session in New Orleans if you think there might be
interest in what I am doing.
