Pardon me if someone has already stated this (I have several dozen other
messages still to read), but instead of searching texts for examples, I
think using local examples from your newspaper (even your college paper)
is probably most helpful. Invest some time thinking about how a
particular current event, esp. a local one, ties into your courses. More
often than not, I think that they will convey econ concepts better than
what you might dig out of some text - and since it is something you
developed, I think your enthusiasm about teaching them will be higher.
Last term in Int. Micro I "borrowed" several applications from other
texts writing out brief descriptions of each. I covered some of these,
but not all - asked students to read them. A few were probably well
received, but I think my own applications were more effective (all
humility aside).
